Jurassic Park Outdoor Movie Night

Creatively engaging students in a familiar event done with an interesting execution.

Problem

By contract, Student Activities must show eight movies on Trinity's campus every year. The question is, how do you make each event a unique and fun experience, and how do you market each one in a creative and individual fashion? In the past, each event had the same environment and feeling, and Student Activities cannot rely on the movie alone to gather an audience. Marketing and planning must be completed in an creative fashion to gather an audience.

Solution

Student Activities movie nights must market in a fun and engaging manner to attract attention. To make this event stand out from other movie nights, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be shown outside. Additionally, the poster and social media posts surrounding the event will focus on entertainment. This event will be marketed as a unique, fun-loving event above all else.

Process

Firstly, a poster will be put up around campus advertising the event. I chose to put the poster in an exciting 1950's theme with a dinosaur driving a Cadillac. This design will engage students, and will boost word-of-mouth advertising through its unique appearance. On this poster specifically, I received a large number of compliments on the design. As a follow up to the poster, the social media marketing will reinforce this unique event as a fun-loving Summer night. I edited a video using footage from the original Jurassic Park to market the event in a humorous manner. I then followed this post up with a cute hand-drawing of a dinosaur, and event coverage posted stories on Instagram and Snapchat. Overall, the marketing plan surrounding Student Activities outdoor movie night successfully met our goal of creating an unique environment.

Conclusion

Overall, the turnout to the event compared to other movie nights was amazing. Without a doubt, the execution and marketing of the event was one of the best movie nights Trinity has done in recent years. Thankfully, we were blessed with amazing weather. Overall, the most important lesson I learned from this event was to have fun. Students will not go to an event the planning team does not get behind. If it appears that Student Activities is having fun with the event, students will as well.
